Chaffetz: Americans might need to choose health care over new iPhones

Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Tuesday warned some Americans that their healthcare choice may come down to buying a new iPhone or spending money on medical care coverage.

“You know what, Americans have choices. And they've reached make a decision,” Chaffetz (R-Utah) said on CNN.

“And so maybe, instead of getting that new iPhone that they really adore plus they want to spend 100's of dollars on, maybe they ought to purchase their care – they’ve reached make those decision themselves,” Chaffetz, chairman of the home Oversight Committee, said each day after the House released a long-awaited plan to replace ObamaCare.

He said the GOP version eliminates the person mandate that needs individuals to sign up for health care coverage or pay a problem.

Instead, the GOP is proposing individual tax credits to assist them to purchase insurance.

“We’re eliminating the person mandate. We’re getting rid of those activities that people said they don’t want,” he explained.
