Driverknowledge.com reports, an average of 6 million automobile accidents occur each year. While car crashes are typical, it doesn't diminish the strain they cause. “Being involved in an accident, even when it is minor is extremely stressful,” says Ellsworth Buck, V . p . of Insurance, Florida's largest independent car insurance agency.
Knowing what to do in the case of a car crash can make the incident much easier. Here are steps to consider if you're involved in an accident.
Stop, even if it's a minor incident, do not leave the scene,
you could be susceptible to criminal charges.
Check to see if the passengers inside your car and then any others
involved are ok, or do you want medical attention? Even when someone feels dizzy,
it is good to an ambulance. If someone is hurt, don't move them.
Move to some safe area if at all possible, a shoulder, sidewalk, side street or parking area. Place your car in park, switch off the engine and set on your hazards. Place triangles or flares out if necessary, to warn other drivers.
Call police towards the scene. AAA recommends calling law enforcement, regardless of what either party says and filing a police report. When the police are not equipped towards the scene, you can file a study by visiting a nearby police station. A police report can be invaluable towards the claim process and help establish who's to blame.
